Say goodbye Tesla Autopilot – Elon Musk is betting everything on an AI-dominated future of autonomous vehicles
Tesla is getting a new Chinese rival. Everybody is aware of the Tesla activity on new technology and on the manufacturing of electric cars, but the XPeng company is overtaking the American company. Xpeng has got something Tesla wasn’t able to develop, the use of AI on cars so that the driving becomes an autonomous one. Imagine driving with no hands and without worrying about being too tired. Well, let me tell you this future is closer than we think.
Tesla’s new competitor
We have seen many types of cars from petrol to electric ones, but now there is a project developing autonomous cars. XPeng is a Chinese company known for manufacturing electric cars and they have sold over 90,000 of its new most successful car, the Xpeng G6. So, due to these numbers, XPeng decided to have a go in the European market. This decision leads the Chinese company to compete against fully established companies like Tesla.
This will mean a technological competition between Tesla and XPeng to see who has the most technology advanced product on the market. For now, XPeng is ahead, but let’s see why its new XPeng G6 car is so fascinating.
Xpeng G6, the future of cars
The XPeng G6 is an electric car as well as Tesla’s, so what’s the difference? Well, when you are looking for a car, you normally focus on the design and the engine, but these aspects are not what are the most striking features of the G6. You will be surprised but… they are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) on their systems!
AI is gaining importance in our daily lives, most people use it for everyday activities like studying, working or even asking about a recipe, but now we will be able to drive in a whole different way thanks to the AI. The G6 includes a voice system to interact with the AI in the car and use it as driver assistance or even entertainment.

The AI is able to learn drivers’ behaviour, which means that in the future AI incorporated cars will be able to make suggestions about places to go. Sounds weird, right? AI will be able to track where you normally go, for example, at your job every morning from Monday to Friday, and every time you use your car at that time and day, the AI will suggest you that place to go with no need of introducing yourself to the destination on the GPS.
The AI is not only used as a convenience, but also as a useful tool for emergencies. The AI will detect an unusual or dangerous situation and it will immediately ask for help or take you to a safe place. This could be a very useful use of technology to improve our lives, don’t you think so?
Chinese leadership
Having all these improved features and the fascinating use of new technologies, Tesla is facing a challenging situation in the cars market. This is because Tesla cannot compete with XPeng AI’s system even though Tesla incorporates the Autopilot system to its cars, but drivers need to be focused on the driving all the time. Fully autonomous cars are right in the corner coming from Chinese companies, cars will be able to study traffic rules and drive themselves and people could rest or even watch a movie while going somewhere.
To sum up, Elon Musk should think about the future of Tesla’s manufacturing cars if he wants to at least be competing against Chinese companies.
