Hundreds of Thousands of Trucks Recalled
Chrysler announced a recall of more than 315,000 pickups due to a defect that can lead to the loss of braking, stability and traction controls.
The recall affects 100% of the recall vehicle population, which encompasses 2017 and 2018 Ram 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis and 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis.
The trucks’ brake hydraulic control unit can fail or malfunction, potentially leading to intermittent loss of antilock braking, electronic stability and traction control that can worsen over time to complete loss, according to a notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
The defect can obviously lead to a crash if not remedied.
Dealers will replace the hydraulic control unit. Recall notices are scheduled to be mailed to owners on Jan. 9.
The automaker had gotten more than 53,000 warranty claims related to the issue but had been informed of no accidents as a result of it.
