Experts say electric vehicles costs are going down. Here’s why you should consider one

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — If you’re looking for a new vehicle, you might be considering an all-electric car.
The costs of a new electric vehicle may have kept many from purchasing in the past, but experts say those costs are coming down, and often, electric vehicles are similarly priced to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.
“I’d say these cars are very, very powerful, and people may not realize that,” David Lowy, a member of the Houston Electric Vehicle Association, said.
Drivers at an electric-car meet-up in Houston say they’ve purchased both new and used EVs. They say buying a used EV can be an easy way to make the switch.

“We’ve seen very good offers on used (cars). It’s a great way to get into it if you’re just starting out,” Lowy said.
According to ElectricForAll.org, buyers of used EVs can now get incentives and certain credits that were generally available only for brand-new EVs in the past.
The website has a section where you can search for incentives in your area by simply entering your zip code.
Many drivers are concerned about battery life in a used EV, but the experts at Electric For All suggest that when you’re shopping for a used EV, it’s best to look for a car that has between 50,000 and 75,000 miles.

On ElectricForAll.org, you can find a link to Recurrent, which can help you estimate what you should pay for a used EV based on battery condition.
Experts say if the used EV has low miles or is just a few years old, it may still be under a manufacturer’s warranty, so you can buy with confidence.
