12TH PHILIPPINE ELECTRIC VEHICLE SUMMIT: Sparking change to electrify the future
THE 12th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), held last October 24 to 26, 2024, ignited a wave of enthusiasm for electric vehicles (EVs) in the Philippines. Organized by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), the three-day event brought together EV enthusiasts, industry experts, government officials, and leading automotive brands to showcase the latest advancements in EV technology and policy.
The summit’s theme, “Spark Change, Drive Electric,” resonated with attendees as they explored a wide range of topics, from the latest EV models to the government’s supportive policies. A highlight of the event was the opportunity for attendees to test drive the latest EVs, providing firsthand experience of the benefits of electric mobility.
Key discussions at the summit included the current market trends, challenges, government incentives, and future opportunities for the EV industry in the Philippines. EV owners shared their experiences, dispelling common misconceptions and highlighting the advantages of driving electric vehicles.
Industry leaders and government officials emphasized the importance of sustainability and the role of EVs in reducing carbon emissions. The Department of Energy (DOE) announced plans to release a revised EV incentive strategy, which includes goals for EV fleet shares across corporate and government sectors, designated parking for EVs, and expanded charging stations.
EVAP President Edmund Araga expressed optimism about the future of the EV market in the Philippines. He highlighted the association’s focus on promoting localized production of EVs and its goal of achieving a 6.6 million EV fleet by 2030.
