Details are still scarce, but Autocar has received information that the new M5 will adopt a rear-mounted electric motor among a slew of major engineering changes.

It is claimed that the 2024 car will combine the work of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine currently used on the sixth generation of the M5 cars, and an electric motor will work alongside it, providing a power unit of more than 200 hp and more than 298 Nm of torque, making the power of The next car has about 790 hp and a thousand Nm of torque.

As with the current car, the BMW M5 2024 will be equipped with 8-speed automatic transmission, and it will work with a fully variable all-wheel-drive system xDrive with more power distribution to the rear in the most performance-focused driving modes in the car.
It is said that the vehicle will use a lithium-ion battery similar in capacity to the 12 kWh unit found in the BMW 545e xDrive, which will be mounted low under the rear seat, and operate at 354 volts, and can be charged up to 11 kW.

It remains to be seen if this battery will be used for the upcoming M5 production versions, although suggestions are that M Power develops its own performance battery with ultra-fast discharge characteristics.
