The Top-Selling 2020 Mazda6
The Mazda6 quickly rose to become Mazda’s best-selling vehicle after it debuted in 2002. Now six generations later, the vehicle remains a popular favorite among drivers of mid-size vehicles.
While the vehicle has seen a lot of updates over the years in terms of tech features, look, and power, this is still the same comfortable, well-handling vehicle that launched its popularity in the first place. The 2020 Mazda6 is not a complete overhaul since many updates were already made in both 2018 and 2019. It is also expected to look the same as the 2019 version. In fact, the only real difference with the 2020 Mazda6 is that it will be the second vehicle in Mazda’s lineup (the first being the CX-5) to receive the 2.2-liter diesel engine as an option.
Performance
Performance-wise, the diesel engine is mighty powerful, for a mid-size car at least, with 168 hp and 290 pound-feet of torque. Other engines for the 2020 Mazda6 include the standard base 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 hp and the optional turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 250 hp (and requires premium fuel). Overall, the newest Mazda6 gets around 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, although the new diesel engine is expected to improve on this. As far as drivability goes, this is still the same fun-to-drive vehicle that takes tight turns like a champ and doesn’t take as long to accelerate (6.7 seconds to hit 60mph) as some other midsize cars. It’s also worth noting that all of the 2020 Mazda6 trims now come standard with six-speed automatic transmission, as the manual option was ditched in 2018.
Safety
As far as new tech or safety features for the 2020 Mazda6 go, there aren’t really any. However, this is only because the 2019 version was already packed full of ’em! The 2020 vehicle, therefore, comes with all the cool new stuff its immediate predecessor had to offer, such as LED headlights with auto-leveling and auto-off, rain-sensing variable intermittent windshield wipers, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry with push start, Bluetooth, USB ports, and more. Safety features include adaptive front lighting, smart brake support (can activate the brakes when sensing an imminent front collision), and traffic sign recognition. The 2020 is also expected to earn the same safety rating as the 2019, which was a stellar NHTSA score of five stars.
Trims
As far as trims go, the 2020 Mazda6 has five main ones to choose from Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature. The key differences between these trims are that the higher ones (namely the Touring and up) come with a lot of extras that most modern drivers look for in a new vehicle, like navigation and head-up display, Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity, etc. Other than that, the luxury differences are pretty noticeable, as the higher trims also come with a sunroof and leather seat options. The Grand Touring Reserve is the most luxurious of all, with a heated steering wheel, automatic power-folding side mirrors, 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, heated rear seats, and adaptive front-lighting system, among other features. The Reserve even has aluminum alloy wheels with a silver finish, so needless to say, it’s flashier than the rest.
Price
Now let’s get down to brass tacks. The starting MSRP for the 2020 Mazda6 is expected to remain in the same ballpark as the 2019 version, between $23,800 and $35,100. Those who opt for the diesel engine will nevertheless be looking at a higher price tag. Those looking for a special deal or offer will have to look at what individual dealerships are doing, as no national Mazda offers have been announced yet for the 2020. That said, Mazda already offers military members up to $500 towards a new vehicle, and current Mazda owners may be eligible for their $750 loyalty program (putting money towards a new vehicle). Other incentives for the 2020 Mazda6 are not expected to be announced until late 2020.
