The New Mercedes-Maybach SL will compete with a Bentley car

A car for who wants a "sophisticated luxury driving and design experience."

Mercedes-Benz presses on in overhauling its product portfolio. In fact, one of the new models to be arriving in the future will be from Maybach, Mercedes is readying an ultra-luxurious Maybach version of its new SL roadster to rival the Bentley Continental GT Convertible as part of its greater focus on its highest-margin products.

Wagener’s social media post came with a caption that says:

A glimpse of the Concept Mercedes-Maybach SL – revealing more about future opportunities of our company’s most exclusive brand. For customers who desire a sophisticated luxury driving and design experience.

Reviewed on Instagram by Mercedes chief design officer Gordon Wagener, the first-of-its-kind Mercedes-Maybach SL will feature a full chrome grille, Maybach emblems printed on the bonnet, and a triangular star emblem.

The ultra-luxury version of Maybach on its new SL roadster will compete with the Bentley Continental GT Convertible, These new Maybach models are part of Mercedes’ plan to overhaul its lineup in its bid to become “the world’s most valuable luxury car brand.” The plan is that 75 percent of investments are going for bigger and more expensive vehicles with higher profit margins.

Mercedes announced it will be cutting down its “Entry Luxury” range from seven to four body styles while adding more technology and luxurious features. The teased sedan could be the first sample of the next-generation compact Mercedes, set to debut in 2024. It will be underpinned by the new MMA platform, and introduce the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) before it expands to the entire range bringing new connectivity features.

No other details have been revealed, but the luxury roadster is expected to be launched with the most potent option currently available in the Mercedes-AMG SL: a 577bhp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter petrol V8.

Besides the aforementioned models, Mercedes hinted at another possible addition to its range without giving any visual clues.

We are talking about a new model set to expand the G-Class family that is currently under consideration. Reading between the lines, it sounds like another 4×4 which will likely retain the boxy design language of the G-Class and the upcoming fully-electric EQG.

Mercedes last week also revealed plans for another SL-based open-roof speedster to launch a new dedicated brand for “highly exclusive collectible cars” called Mythos.

Mythos will produce low-volume special vehicles for “the most dedicated enthusiasts and collectors of Mercedes-Benz” and will in effect sit above Maybach in Mercedes’ brand portfolio.
