ROLLS-ROYCE Boat Tail: The most expensive car in the world

The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is a mid-sized luxury coach built grand tourer car made by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, The car was designed by the company’s specialized coach-build division at its Good-wood plant, reinterpreting the 1910s Rolls-Royce Ltd Boat Tail car design, It draws aesthetic inspiration from yachts of the 1920s and 1930s. The car shares its chassis and engine with the Rolls-Royce Phantom; but has 1,813 bespoke parts, including five electronic control units in the rear deck.

The front of the re-imagined Boat Tail is fairly par for the course, and features Rolls-Royce’s huge pantheon grille, but there are several nods to the sea; a wrap-around windscreen adds some nautical vibes, while the sides of the car feature lines which echo running boards.

“We have created a trio of exceptional cars which, although they share a common body style, are each imbued with the unique, highly personal imprint of the commissioning patron, thereby telling differing stories,”

Alex Innes, head of Rolls-Royce’s Coachbuild design team

“Boat Tail is unprecedented. It is a distinct counterpoint to industrialized luxury.”

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars

The eighth-generation of Phantom was presented in 2017, In creating the new expression, Rolls-Royce designers and engineers have been guided by the requests of clients, who have implored Rolls-Royce not to make any major changes to an already iconic motor car. In answer to these client demands, only the lightest of design touches, embellishments, and adaptations have been incorporated. Indeed, it is not about what should be changed, but in fact, what should be preserved and protected.

ROLLS-ROYCE Boat Tail’s color and interior desgin

Rolls-Royce also says the Boat Tail has a color blend of “oyster and soft rose”, with a pearlescent finish that changes under different light conditions.

The interior carries similar inspiration from pearl shells with more cognac, more walnut, more rose gold, and naturally, mother-of-pearl accents. The Boat Tail owner actually supplied Rolls-Royce with mother-of-pearl from his own collection to use during construction. Speaking of which, this special vehicle is coach-built by hand just like the first model, making prolific use of aluminum in the process. And yes, the picnic area with the umbrella is part of the design.

There are platinum-edged porcelain plates in there, too, along with silver cutlery from Christofle of Paris, engraved with the “Boat Tail” name, naturally. And lest you think that Rolls-Royce’s signature umbrellas hidden inside the doors aren’t fancy enough, the Boat Tail offers a pop-up parasol to provide shade for your impromptu picnic. “In anticipation of fine weather,” the press release states, in a British accent you can almost hear while reading.

Twin cocktail tables swing out from the trunk area to provide a platform for you midday snack, and seating is provided by two “highly contemporary minimalist stools,” which are “discretely stowed below,” made by Italian furniture maker Memorial, and upholstered in blue leather to match the Boat Tail’s interior.

 The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Price
