Electric Vehicles Of The Future Could Produce Drinking Water From The Air

Have you ever wanted to drive on the freeway while drinking a glass of water from the air your car is passing? Probably not, but American drivers will soon be able to anyway.

Emerging electric vehicle maker Mullen Automotive has entered into an alliance with Israeli company Watergen to develop and equip Mullen’s portfolio of electric vehicles with the ability to produce clean water from thin air.

The growing popularity of electric vehicles has given rise to a new wave of emerging electric vehicle manufacturers, representing a turning point in the history of the car industry, which has long been dominated by manufacturers. New brands are beginning to emerge, each with their own moves that they hope will give them an edge in the growing electric vehicle market.

Mullen is no different, and the manufacturer’s CEO and president David Micherry has indicated that the innovation (scheduled for initial testing in the first quarter of 2023) could help its vehicles stand apart from the pack.

“Mullen will be the first automotive company to launch and implement WaterGen for our entire electric vehicle portfolio,” he said. “The opportunities for air-to-water vehicle applications are endless, and Mullen is proud to partner with Watergen on this game-changing technology.”

WaterGen is an Israel-based company that manufactures atmospheric water production technology and equipment that produces drinking water from moisture found in ordinary household air.

Watergen’s association with Mullen

As a result of the partnership with Mullen, Watergen’s “clean drinking water from the air” technology will enable the electric vehicle maker’s vehicles to have a fresh supply of hot and cold drinking water for in-vehicle occupants. The technology is planned for Mullen’s electric vehicle cargo van fleet and could be used in both commercial and recreational vehicles. The air-to-water system will provide five liters of drinking water a day – directly from the air – when the vehicle is in motion.

By applying its technology to Mullen’s vehicles, Watergen hopes to reach a wider audience of potential users. The company hopes to further its primary goal of addressing the shortage of drinking water anytime, anywhere, while also enabling the elimination of carbon-intensive supply chains and environmentally harmful plastic waste.

“The collaboration with Mullen moves us closer to a cleaner environment and a unique, uncompromising vehicle experience,” said Steve Elbaz, Vice President of Mobility at Watergen. “We are working and will continue to work for a clean future not only for ourselves, but for all the people of this world.”
