Electric vehicles, Avanti exhibits continue at Studebaker

SOUTH BEND — Two exhibits continue at the Studebaker National Museum, 201 Chapin St.:

• “Charged: The Rise, Fall and Resurgence of Electric Cars”: Discover the origins and explore the future of electric vehicles in this special exhibition. More than a century of electric automobiles are on display to trace the winding path of electric vehicles from the 19th to the 21st century.

Featured vehicles include a 1901 Ryker Torpedo race car, a 1992 GM EV1 Impact Electric, as well as examples of Studebaker passenger and commercial electric vehicles.  Through Oct. 2.

• “The Avanti: America’s Most Advanced Automobile”: The Studebaker Avanti was one of the industry’s most imaginative and sensational vehicles. For the Avanti’s 60th anniversary, the museum explores the Avanti’s improbable origin story and its place in the 1963 automotive landscape. The exhibit looks at contemporary reviews and road tests as well as promotional materials and advertisements.

Additionally, the exhibition discusses the Avanti’s early production difficulties and its life beyond Studebaker. Through Oct. 30.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Admission is $10-$6; free for members and ages 5 and younger.
