NEW YORK, N.Y. – Former Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA) Chairman Bob Vail of Vail Buick GMC has been elected to the National Automobile Dealers Association’s (NADA) Executive Committee as Vice-Chairman, Region I.

Being a part of the NADA Executive Committee, I will be able to elevate the specific concerns of GNYADA members, to ensure our common goals are addressed in Washington.

Vail has been representing Metro New York on NADA’s Board since 2017. Bob is also an active member of NADA’s Industry Relations and Regulatory Affairs Committees. During his frequent trips to D.C., Vail is highly involved in a number of federal dealer issues including vehicle recalls, repealing the FET on new heavy-duty trucks, autonomous vehicles, and more.

In addition to representing the Greater New York region’s auto dealers, which collectively have a $53 billion economic impact and support more than 72,000 jobs in New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley, Vail is now responsible for bringing together industry leaders throughout the Eastern United States, to speak with a strong collective voice.

“What happens on the national level has a direct and immediate impact on our businesses here in New York,” Vail said. “Being a part of the NADA Executive Committee, I will be able to elevate the specific concerns of GNYADA members, to ensure our common goals are addressed in Washington.”

“Bob is a longtime small business owner who knows our industry as well as anyone,” said GNYADA President Mark Schienberg. “During his many years of service on the GNYADA board, he has proven to be a tireless advocate for the retail auto business. As we confront the unique and complicated challenges presented by the COIVD-19 pandemic, and the ongoing regulatory hurdles that face our industry, our members are extremely fortunate to have someone with Bob’s experience and knowledge representing them.”

Vial is a third-generation auto dealer. The Vail family has been in the auto industry since 1918, when his grandfather first opened a Chevrolet dealership in Ossining, N.Y. Vail entered the family business in the ’60s, starting as a mechanic at a Studebaker dealership owned by his father and brother. Today, he carries on the family-business tradition — his son Greg is now also his business partner at their dealership in Bedford Hills, Westchester.

New York Metro dealers should have utmost confidence that Vail will work tirelessly as their advocate on the national level; he certainly has the know-how. He brings more than 40 years of dealership experience, including ten years serving on GNYADA’s Executive Committee.

GNYADA knows that no one is better prepared than Vail to serve as the voice of dealers in the nation’s capital, and the Association wishes to congratulate him on this substantial achievement.
