What’s New for 2023: Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz completed the first wave of its EV rollout for the 2023 model year, bringing the total to five EQ electric sedans and crossover SUVs. It’s just the beginning, and the EQ nomenclature may be eliminated as early as 2025 as Mercedes phases out internal combustion engines in some markets by 2030. Thus the EQS full-size electric sedan may become the next S-Class.
With an electric G-Wagen on the way, the EQG, as well as an eSprinter work van slated for 2024, Mercedes’ electrification plan runs the spectrum of its offerings. But it hasn’t neglected the last generation of combustion-engine cars, with a redesigned GLC compact crossover and an S-Class plug-in hybrid coming to market this year, and a refreshed GLE-Class for 2024 as well as a new CLA-Class. Ultra-lux Maybach variants and blistering performance cars are also arriving as 2024 models, including the AMG C 63 S, AMG GLS 63, AMG E 53 Wagon, AMG GT.
Mercedes continues to lean into its luxury pedigree but is enhancing it with advanced technology ranging from hands-free driving systems to the brand’s dashboard-dominating Hyperscreen, a 56-inch array made up of three large screens under one piece of glass.
Here’s what’s new across the core lineup for 2023 Mercedes-Benz models.
New or redesigned
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV

– A taller, roomier take on the EQE sedan, the five-seat crossover SUV goes on sale this spring, followed by an AMG variant this summer.
– Energized by a 90.6-kwh battery pack, the EQE SUV 350+ has a single 215-kwh motor with rear-wheel drive that makes 288 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive EQE SUV 350 4Matic boosts torque to 564 lb-ft.
– Both models cost the same, starting at $79,050 with destination, and both are offered in base, Pinnacle, and Exclusive trims.
– Range is expected to peak at about 305 miles, and DC fast charging at 170 kw can charge the battery to 80% in about 32 minutes.

– The sportiest model in the EQ electric lineup, the mid-size sedan electrifies the E-Class with a 90.6-kwh battery pack and a single 215-kwh motor with rear-wheel drive that makes 288 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque.
– The dual-motor all-wheel-drive EQE 350 4Matic boosts torque to 564 lb-ft.
– The dual-motor EQE 500 is rated at 300 kw and has an output of 402 hp and 633 lb-ft; it’s expected to arrive this year.
– The AMG EQE tops the lineup with a 328-volt high-performance battery and AMG-tuned motors with stronger magnetic fields that make up to 677 hp and 738 lb-ft. It shaves the 0-60 mph time to 3.2 seconds and is also expected to arrive later this year.
– Range runs from 305 miles in the 350+ to about 240 miles for the forthcoming EQE AMG. It can DC fast charge at a rate of up to 170 kw, filling the battery to 80% in about 32 minutes.
– The EQE 350+ costs $76,050, while adding a second motor adds $3,000 more. The EQE 500 costs $87,050; expect the AMG variant to flirt with six figures.

– Sharing a platform and a 108.4-kwh battery pack with the EQS sedan, the three-row electric crossover SUV has a single rear motor or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that makes 355 hp on the base EQS SUV 450+ or 536 hp on the EQS SUV 580. A standard air suspension with adaptive damping comes standard, as does rear-axle steering.
– Range tops out at 305 miles for the 450+, while dual motor models get about 285 miles. Its 400-volt architecture enables 200-kw DC fast charging that can refill the battery from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes.
– Four inches shorter in length than the GLS three-row SUV but with a longer wheelbase, the cabin is roomy and comfortable, but the two third-row seats rely on the kindness of the second-row riders for leg comfort.
– Starting at more than $105,000, the EQS SUV comes loaded a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12.8-inch central touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, a surround-view camera system, heated and cooled leather front seats, ambient lighting, Burmester audio, and power second-row seats. Options range from Mercedes’ Hyperscreen wall of digital dash screens to massaging seats and a whole lot more, including a price exceeding $133,000 for the 580 Pinnacle model.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class
– Compact crossover arrives with a new look, a longer footprint, and new tech, but the engine lineup is pared down to a 258-hp turbo-4 supplemented with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to ease the electrical load and conserve fuel.
– A 9-speed automatic sends power to the front wheels or available all-wheel drive for an extra $2,000 on either base, Exclusive, or Pinnacle trims.
– The $48,250 GLC comes with a new infotainment system with an 11.9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 16-way power front seats that are heated, synthetic leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels, and ambient lighting.
– The AMG GLC 43 and GLC 63 S E will arrive later this year as 2024 models.

– The V-8 engines return to the lineup for 2023 after supply constraints limited them for 2022.
2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
– The flagship sedan stands pat, though a plug-in hybrid variant known as the S 580e is new for 2023. It has a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 combined with a single electric motor, and its drive goes to all four wheels. A plug-in hybrid system and a twin-turbo V-8 make 791 hp in the new S 63 E Performance from AMG.
