2022 Subaru Crosstrek: A Trim Comparison
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek can take you anywhere you need to go, so it’s no wonder the tagline is “There’s always room for more stories.”
Subaru Crosstrek Trims
Along with an attractive interior, this vehicle has a high ground clearance and plenty of features for a long drive. We’re comparing the trims to help you decide which one is right for your next adventure whether it’s on the paved road or off the beaten path.
The base 2022 Subaru Crosstrek focuses on affordability, so it isn’t a surprise that this trim is just $22,445. It’s equipped with a 2.0-liter DOHC engine that’s capable of 152-horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. This allows drivers to tow a maximum of 1,500 pounds, ideal for small trailers. With this engine, the Crosstrek gets up to 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. All trims feature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, so drivers have maximum control.
Subaru lets you go where your heart wants, including off-road. For this reason, the Crosstrek comes with 8.7-inches of ground clearance and raised roof rails for extra storage. This trim also comes with STARLINK Multimedia with 6.5-inch touchscreen, four-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Additionally, there is automatic climate control.
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Premium starts at $23,595 and is an upgrade from the base Crosstrek. On the exterior, safety improves with the addition of fog lights. It also comes with a windshield wiper de-icer and heated side mirrors as part of the All-Weather Package. The All-Weather Package also adds heated seating on the interior.
Drivers can also find a leather-wrapped steering wheel with orange stitching, sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, rear cargo tray, and retractable and removable cargo-area cover. Finally, the Crosstrek Premium also adds two more speakers than the previous trim, bringing the total to six speakers.
With the purchase of the CVT transmission at additional cost, you can purchase an additional package for under $2K, which offers safety features like blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, as well as comfort and convenience features like a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a moonroof and proximity keyless entry.
The Sport trim starts at $26,795 and comes with a CVT transmission and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, and EyeSight safety features.
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited starts at $27,195 and comes with the same engine included in the Sport trim. This trim has several more luxury features that may make you think you’re driving a luxury brand. The first notable feature is leather-trimmed seating. To add to this, the driver’s seat allows power adjustment, and the shifter handle and automatic transmission handle are also wrapped in leather with orange stitching. Two additional USB ports, proximity keyless entry and push-button start are standard.
For convenience, the Crosstrek Limited has a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The STARLINK system receives an upgrade to an eight-inch multimedia full-color screen. With this system, you can access SiriusXM All Access Radio, Traffic, and Travel Link. You can also use Yelp and iHeart Radio thanks to STARLINK’s cloud-based applications.
If safety is important to you, the Crosstrek Limited checks all the boxes. Along with the upgrades in the Crosstrek Premium, this trim also comes with Blind-Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alerts. Drivers also have EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, High Beam Assist, and Reverse Automatic Braking included.
Optional features include a moonroof, eight-speaker audio system and navigation.
The 2022 Crosstrek Hybrid trim is a plug-in hybrid with a 148-horsepower hybrid powertrain, an automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. We have a helpful explainer of the different types of hybrid cars that seem confusing to you. Essentially, this plug-in hybrid Crosstrek has a battery that needs to be plugged in to charge up to its full potential. When fully charged, the Crosstrek Hybrid can drive up to 17 miles of electric-only range that is free from emissions!
After that, the gas engine kicks in and the Crosstrek Hybrid operates like a more traditional battery electric vehicle like the Toyota Prius. It offers some of the benefits of a fully electric vehicle (no emissions or gasoline) with some of the benefits of a traditional gas engine (longer range). It’s also important to note that this is one of the few hybrid crossovers on the market available with an AWD powertrain standard. While operating on fuel, the Crosstrek earns a fuel economy of about 35 mpg combined.
In most respects, the hybrid Crosstrek has pretty much the same standard features as the Crosstrek Limited. The starting MSRP is $35,645.
